Have you ever been standing in a queue waiting to get into a bar when you think to yourself, wouldn’t it be great if someone just showed up and started handing drinks out?
Well it turns out the people at The Four Thieves pub in Clapham are thoughtful enough to do exactly that. Our friends were helped to wine whilst waiting to get into the popular Arcade Room last Saturday night. Unfortunately my boyfriend and I arrived late so missed out on this perk but soon made up for lost time once inside!
The lively, upbeat atmosphere of the place was unmistakable. There is so much to do here, existing previously as a music hall it is now a big venue with plenty of rooms and different vibes in each one. We spent our night in the Arcade Room which boasted video game classics such as mortal combat projected onto the big screen, a full size Scaletrix racing track, arcade games such as Deer Hunter as well as a fusball machine, table tennis, air hockey and even its own mini golf course!
The pièce de résistance of the night that I must mentoin was Moonshine Raceway, I mean its not every day you find a full sized Scaletrix track with 10 driver seats in the middle of an English pub. Hats off to the creators for this idea!
It’s unarguably a very popular attraction and it wasn’t long before me and some friends crowded in to try it out for ourselves. Perched on driving seat Number 1 (ironic considering what was to follow!) I found myself waiting for the race to start contemplating whether that last Kronenburg would help or hinder my performance. Having spent some time watching other drunken revellers compete, most of whom made it look very easy I assumed it wouldn’t be too difficult for me to complete the nine rounds at a reasonable speed. Five minutes later when the race was in full swing I realised I was in fact very wrong as my little car was not going any where I wanted it to but instead remained stuck in the middle of the track as I tried to steer it forwards with no success. It’s fair to say coordination really isn’t my strong point. *Embarassed face*
I was no winner by any stretch of the imagination and I think the only medal I deserved was for numpty of the night. I decided to pose my way through the humiliation…
Another fun part of the night for me was the mini ping pong tournament I had with the boyfriend. It’s quite interesting to test out your balance and cognitive skills after a few drinks- the task of avoiding knocking the ball into someone’s glass of rum and coke was enough for me!
It was one of the best nights out I’ve had in ages and I can’t wait to go back soon!
The Four Thieves host regular comedy nights, live music, themed nights, bottomless brunch and the list goes on- there’s really no excuse not to visit it!
