Dennis Severs has created a totally unique experience for his guests. Fascinated by the art of centuries past he has transformed this 10 roomed house on Folgate Street into a theatrical and artistic experience which the visitor is himself in control of. As you wander through the rooms you may well feel as though you have stepped back in time, beyond the artist’s portrait into a time gone by. It almost feels as though the person living here has just stepped out as you observe the roaring fire and half finished meal laid on the table. It’s your instincts that will lead you round this house and through each sensory experience as art and theatre merge in each new space you enter. Silence is expected as you explore this strange and mystical house. It is hard to define what sort of experience this is which seems to be the point. Each person must decide for themselves. The house motto is ‘you either see it or you don’t.’ But emphasizes that whether you do or don’t it really doesn’t matter as it is the experience that counts! All very elusive but also intriguing and thought-provoking. Particularly atmospheric at xmas book yourself on a silent night visit or the exclusive silent night where you can sit by the fire and enjoy a mice pie with some mulled wine as you soak up the surroundings. Open from 5-9pm from 2nd December – 3rd January.
