Halloween is over and good old Mr. Frost has turned up on our doorstep like an unwelcome relative bringing with him coughs, splutters and dark skies… but fear not Jimmy Garcia has come up with the perfect antidote in the form of The Lodge in Balham. A newly opened Alpine themed pop-up restaurant has set up home in an old shopping unit and is already proving a massive hit. With wooden walls and tables , tartan cushions with warm woolen rugs and random items such as taxidermy and vintage skis dotted around the atmosphere is wonderfully xmassy.
Next indulge in some of the must try comfort food on offer such as the truffled mac and cheese, the venison burger with chunky chips or the wild boar sausages and mash- all of which are guaranteed to warm you from the inside out. But if you really want to picture yourself in a perfect Swiss idyl opt for the Neal’s Yard Dairy fondue, a delicious blend of cheeses, white wine and kirsch- perfect for dipping big chunks of bread into.
Now there’s only one thing left to do… wash it all down with some mouthwatering hot cocktails. Try one of the buttered rum and Jamaican hot toddies, the Deep South Eggnog or a more traditional mulled wine.
The Lodge is situated about a minute’s walk from Balham underground and is open from Tuesday – Sunday. Whether it’s a few drinks or a hearty meal you’re after this is the perfect Winter oasis! Visit their website for more info here
